Boycott of Chinese goods

Demand for boycott of Chinese goods intensifies, CAIT to launch nationwide campaign from June 10

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the apex body of traders across the country, has also joined the boycott campaign for Chinese goods. CAIT has announced a nationwide boycott of Chinese goods from June 10. The organization, which represents about 70 million traders and 40,000 trade unions, will urge traders to distance themselves from Chinese goods and adopt indigenous products.

The CAIT has organized the campaign to promote indigenous industries by boycotting Chinese goods and to take a step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'self-reliant India'. According to CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal, to strengthen the government's 'Make in India' mission, they have been campaigning for a boycott of Chinese products for the last several years, which has resulted in a drop in imports of Chinese goods.

Imports from China in 2017-18 were 76 76 billion, which has now dropped to 70 70 billion. The  6 billion decline reflects a change in the use of indigenous goods and consumer sentiment. Khandelwal said the mission would try to reduce imports of Chinese goods by about 13 13 billion (about Rs 1 lakh crore) by December 2021.

CAIT has compiled a comprehensive list of about 3,000 products imported from China, the options of which are very easily available in India. It may be mentioned that after the border dispute, anti-China sentiment has been created in the country and once again the demand for boycott of Chinese goods has intensified.
