The government and the RBI may extend the waiver period of loan repayment, opposed by banks

The hospitality sector is likely to lose Rs 90,000 crore this year due to the lockdown

According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, talks are underway with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to increase the loan moratorium. The Lone Moratorium facility will be completed on August 31. However, even after August 31, the grace period for customers to repay the loan may be extended. But it is being opposed by banks.

Referring to the hospitality sector during a program organized by industry body FICCI, Sitharaman said that the sector has been most affected by the lockdown. The sector could lose Rs 90,000 crore this year.

  • Companies risk going to the NPA list?
During a meeting with Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikant Das earlier this week, Bharti Enterprise Vice-Chairman Rakesh Bharti Mittal also demanded extension of the loan moratorium and warned that if the facility is not provided in future, NPAs will be included in the list this year. Will increase.

  • Opposition by banks

On Friday, the country's largest bank SBI released its quarterly results. The results made it clear that he was not in favor of raising the moratorium. SBI chairman Rajneesh Kumar said the 9.5 per cent account holders who took advantage of the moratorium included 5.2 per cent corporate units which were in a position to provide loan services since September when the bank examined the accounts.

Not only SBI, but also HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh said the moratorium should not be moved forward. People who have the ability to pay, whether they are individuals or corporates, are also taking advantage of this moratorium.
