The Sensex fell 110 points to 44,150




The weekend saw a break in the Sensex-Nifty-based rally today, with funds, high net worth investors, players storming a broad indiscriminate rally in small, mid-cap, cash stocks. The BSE Small-Cap index jumped 395.09 points to 16,875.15 and the BSE Mid Cap Index jumped 316.59 points to a new record high of 16,914.65. Funds were aggressive in special automobile, consumer durables, pharmaceuticals stocks with attraction in banking-finance stocks. While profit-booking in IT-software services stocks, the Sensex-Nifty based market remained in the negative zone. At the close, the Sensex was down 110.02 points at 44,149.72 and the Nifty spot was down 18.05 points at 12,968.65. The US dollar had gained 16 paise to Rs 74.05 against the rupee today. International crude oil prices rose sharply today to 48 48.11 a barrel of Brent crude and .3 45.31 a barrel of Nymex crude.


  • Sensex remains unchanged at 44,000:


Up 44,407 to 43,995, down 110 points to 44,150 Trading started strong today. The Sensex opened higher at 44,325.03 against the previous close of 44,259.74. The attraction in Tech Mahindra increased to 44407.27. Profit bookings in IT stocks including TCS, HCL Technology, Infosys and Axis Bank, Power Grid Corp, ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever, Hindustan Unilever, Hindustan Unilever Selling in India, including ITC, fell to 43,995.41 and ended 110.02 points lower at 44,149.72.


The Nifty spot fell 18 points to 13,035 at the top and 12,914 at the bottom.


The NSE's Nifty Spot Index opened at 13,012.05 against the previous close of 12,987. Attractions including Paints, Tata Steel, Diviz Lab., Tata Steel, Britannia, Tech Mahindra, Cipla, Nestle India, NTPC rose to 13,035.30. IT stocks from HDFC Life, Axis Bank, JSW Steel, Power Grid Corp, Hindalco, Dr. Reddy's Lab.


  • Nifty 13000 calls fell from 122.35 to 90.45:

Auto stocks rise:


  • Cummins jumps Rs 54 to Rs 586:

The BSE Healthcare Index rose 195.38 points to close at 20,318.54 on the back of continued fund selection in shares of healthcare-pharmaceuticals companies. Sun Pharma rose by Rs 31.90 to Rs 399.80, Laurus Lab by Rs 24.90 to Rs 317.15, Procter & Gamble by Rs 527.65 to Rs 6878.70, Cadila Healthcare by Rs 27.75 to Rs 450.10, FDC by Rs 17.15. JB Chemicals up Rs 42.80 to Rs 995.10, Aarti Drugs up Rs 30.20 to Rs 715.35, Thyrocare up Rs 43.75 to Rs 1095, Metropolis up Rs 72.05 to Rs 2247.65, Wockhardt up Rs 17.80 to Rs 451.90, Newland .30.75 to Rs. 1030.65, Ipka Lab increased by Rs. 61 to Rs. 2196.85.


  • Weekend in small, mid-cap stocks over the weekend:

Out of the total 2982 scrips traded on the BSE, 1786 were up and 1031 were down. The only seller today was the bearish lower circuit of 194 stocks against the bullish circuit of 328 stocks.
