Myanmar police have nabbed Asia's largest synthetic drugs smuggling scandal and also seized the largest amount of these drugs in Asia. Police have seized about 15 tonnes or 1,217 kg of drugs. Simultaneously, for the first time in Asia, such a large quantity of drugs has been seized which is considered to be a major blow to smugglers. The number of bags of drugs was so large that Myanmar police had to use a sports ground to organize them.
The synthetic drugs seized include methamphetamine, chemicals, etc. This is the largest drug racket in Myanmar's history. Nine foreigners living in Myanmar were arrested after the big revelations began during their interrogation. Also included are drug making tools, tablets, etc.
A statement from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said Myanmar police had been conducting operations for the past two months to crack down on drug trafficking. The army also joined the police. Large quantities of weapons have also been seized. The Myanmar government said that this is a great achievement for our country, if these drugs had not been expedited, they would have reached the people and would have resulted in many deaths and serious health problems. Drugs seized include fentanyl, an overdose that has killed more than 150,000 people in the United States and Canada in the past five years. These are so deadly drugs that even the slightest overdose can lead to direct death.
