UN agency tweets "fuel, medical kits'stolen' from Gaza compound," then removes it.

An organization that works for Palestinian refugees said on Monday that it had information that on Sunday, a group of individuals claiming to be from Gaza's health ministry "removed" gasoline and medical supplies from the agency's complex, giving the impression that they had been stolen.

On X, the agency had posted a statement regarding this, but it was quickly removed.

The UN organization stated in the since-deleted post on X that "Fuel & other types of material are kept for strictly humanitarian purposes - any other use is strongly condemned." in reference to the 'stolen' items.

The personnel at UNRWA's Gaza headquarters was required to vacate the building on October 13, according to UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

The compound has not been accessible to the agency workers since, and "no additional details about the removal of the assets" have been provided.

As the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, the UN reported that since Israel began a persistent aerial assault on Gaza in retaliation for Hamas's deadly strike on October 7, over one million Palestinians have been forced to abandon their homes.

Over 1,400 Israelis died as a result of Hamas' attack, the bulk of whom were civilians. At least 2,670 individuals have died as a result of Israeli strikes on the Gazan side.

Israel had also stopped supplying the heavily populated coastal enclave with food, water, and electricity. On Sunday, however, water service was restored to the southern regions.

As more people "continue to leave their homes," the UN agency's head of communications, Juliette Touma, told AFP, "more people are likely to become displaced." In preparation for what is anticipated to be a ground invasion, Israel is gathering troops and weapons along the Gaza border.
